About Our School
St. Matthew's is a voluntary controlled Church of England School and has close links with the Diocese of Birmingham and St. Matthew's Church. The Christian Calendar is important in the school. We also acknowledge and consider other faiths and feel that it is only through knowledge and understanding of their faiths and cultures that we can hope to afford pupils a full place in society where differences are valued and equality assured.
St Matthew's is a community of learners planning, pursuing and providing excellence through a model of Christianity. Children are valued for their individuality and heritage and are encouraged to fulfil their potential to meet the challenges of a changing society.
St Matthew's is a successful one-form entry primary school close to the centre of Birmingham. We celebrate the diversity of our children, with nine out of ten pupils coming from minority ethnic groups and with 16 different languages spoken at home.
Our Values: Courage - Attainment - Pride
Courage can change lives. People of courage have changed the world! Our imperative is to continue to improve attainment for all. This means a strengthened focus on equality, wellbeing and skills for learning. School pride lets us learn to believe in something bigger than ourselves.
Research Schools Network
At St. Matthew’s, evidence-based practice is at the dynamic heart of our school. We are eager to spread this vision more widely, as part of the Research Schools Network.
Our School Mottos:
"You are the light of the world"
Matthew 5:14
"With God Nothing is Impossible"
Luke 1:37
Church Schools - CofE Birmingham
Church schools have Christian beliefs and values at their heart. This means that every child and adult associated with the school is not just important because they are members of the school but because they are seen as unique individuals within God's creation.
